SLOW Food Blue Mountains will highlight Megalong beef at its autumn ‘blue nose’ dinner at Jamison Views Restaurant in Katoomba on Fri 07 May 2010. Chef Andrew Third will offer canapés in the lounge, followed by a four-course meal and wine pairings. The evening will conclude with coffee and petit fours by the fire. Craig Schuetrumpf, of Megalong Beef, will be present to describe the process involved in producing this award-winning beef.

Blue Mountains council launches growers’ market bid

THE Blue Mountains city council is seeking expressions of interest from food producers in a bid to establish a Blue Mountains’ growers’ market. The council has launched the proposal so that the community can buy fresh, healthy, locally-produced food. It is also aimed at connecting Blue Mountains’ communities with local farmers and reducing community ‘food miles’. Interested growers have been invited to respond by 31 July. Slow Food family rallies for Victoria bushfire communities

DONATIONS from bush primary school kids to the Queen have swelled the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Relief Appeal past $107 million in 14 days. Slow Food Australia convivia from Queensland to Western Australia have contributed to the relief effort – Slow Food Perth $500, Noosa $500, Brisbane $500, Gold Coast $750, Mornington Peninsula $500, Sydney $500, East Gippsland $200 and Shoalhaven $250. Slow Food Blue Mountains is working up a plan to provide home-hosting to families affected by the fires. Slow Food Canberra, Capital and Country is hoping to raise seedlings for replanting home gardens and plans a cash donation. Slow Food Adelaide Hills is catering at an open garden scheme open day in Stirling, form which the proceeds will go to the appeal. Slow Food Hobart is hoping to participate in the packing of basic kitchen equipment kits for distribution to affected communities, supported by media corporation News Limited. Slow Food Albury-Wodonga is working with the Hume Murray Food Bowl to plan an event that will raise funds for the tireless Country Fire Athority volunteer brigades.
