John Car is right on this one, sometimes it is impossible for individuals to be able to make the change's needed to curb this behaviour. But that's why we employ a government. Publicly listed companies should not be allowed to branch out into different industries and holding companies and trusts which own subsidiary companies for tax purposes should be abolished.

Must be a good season for nuts this year. We too have a couple of young maturing bunya trees from which we have gathered 4 nuts over the weekend. I'm tossing up how to use them. Eat or propagate??

We have six or so very old Bunya pines on our property in Milla milla NQ & this year we have possibly got the most nuts on the trees that we have ever had ! so far I have collected 25 nuts with possibly another 15 yet to fall. I once sold some to a restraunt in Cairns but they are not interested this time. Do you have any suggestions as to what I could do with them or contacts of anyone that may bew interested in them.
Regards Debbie

My mum nearly died from food poisoning after eating fish from a top restaurant!! Remember how a few years ago, many people died after eating contaminated sausage meat produced in the factory of a well known and supposedly reputable sausage meat producer!! I and my 7 siblings and 4 generations of ancestors were raised on a farm, consuming raw milk, raw cream and fresh grown fruit and vegetables without suffering any ill effects - actually we were never so healthy as back then. We used to place a cup or glass beneath the cow's udder, or under the tap as the milk and cream was running into the milk or cream cans (not the little "tin cans" modern kids see in supermarkets today). There's risk anywhere if providers, and consumers, don't use safe standards, or are exposed to unhygienic practices. I would much rather consume raw milk than the watery, processed 'substitute for milk' that is forced upon consumers now. When I left the farm to go to town to work, I quickly went from happily consuming 3 pints of raw milk a day, to being unable to consume more than 2 cups of pasteurised milk a day, lest I became ill. I also got dizzy every time I drank the town water!!

Oh and of course-- I support raw cheese! All the way!

(BTW did you know you can make your own soft cheese using traditional kefir grains if you can get your hands on some raw milk, either from a dairy run by someone you know or the two "cosmetic" raw milks mentioned above. Fresh kefr grains can be sourced on eBay).

Loving the slow food movement and that someone is taking the initiative on this. I've recently discovered the joys of kefir, and would love to be able to get my hands on some raw milk. Unfortunately Cleopatra's and Aprhrodite's are only available in the eastern states, and, save for buying my own cows/goats I'm stuck with whatever the shops can stock up here in Broome. GO ORGANIC! GO RAW!!!

Hi Alan,
At this time there is only one cheese maker in Australia licensed to make unpasturised cheese. Try the C2 cheese made by Nick Haddow and team at Bruny Island Cheese Co, french style table cheese. Great flavours. Bruny Island Cheese mails product Australia wide. Seasonal flavour can only be achieved using unpasturised milk, most large cheese manufacturers standardise their milk to create consistant flavoured cheese year round, to satisfy mostly uneducated Australian cheese consumers.
Cheers, Col

Do your research people. I nearly died from raw milk off a farm in NZ. I contracted camplylobactor.

Fine have raw milk and cheese, but there should be massive warning labels and children should definitely not go near it.

Raw milk disease outbreaks and deaths used to be common place, pasteurisation has virtually eliminated these forms of disease and death. I'm not saying totally ban it, but there should be warnings, I will never drink raw milk ever again.

There will always be anecdotal evidence such as farmers saying they've drank raw for years, but the risks are there, and death can happen especially to the young and old....
